4-star historic coaching inn with over 1,000 years of hospitality on the Great North Road

History & Building

The George Hotel of Stamford stands on the site of a medieval inn that dates back 1,000 years. The building retains original gateways, passageways, and the remains of an old chapel. It offers a long-standing history as an inn and coaching house along the ancient Great North Road.

Dining

The Oak Room restaurant serves roast beef carved at the table from a large joint on a serving trolley. The Garden Room provides courtyard dining for lunch, and the York Bar offers real ales and light lunches. Guests can also book private dining rooms for special occasions and enjoy a dessert trolley reminiscent of the 1970s.

Rooms

Each boutique-style bedroom is individually designed and includes a handmade bed from Kent with luxurious four-poster beds available. Rooms offer a work desk, a TV with Sky Sports, and a luxurious bathroom. Complimentary morning beverages are delivered to the room before breakfast, alongside a newspaper.

Services & Amenities

The hotel offers free on-site parking and a parking system for guest use. Luggage storage and assistance with cases are provided by hall porters. A 24-hour front desk, a business centre, and meeting rooms are available for guests.

Location & Pet-Friendly

The George Hotel is situated just off the ancient Great North Road and a 5-minute drive from Burghley House. Stamford Train Station is close by, and Rutland Water is a 20-minute drive away. The hotel allows pets and offers a garden area for guest relaxation.

“The George Hotel Of Stamford whispers stories from over a thousand years, stories woven into its very stones. I imagine settling into one of their Kent-made beds after dinner in a private dining room, the kind of bespoke experience they seem to excel at. It's the sort of place where history and a good night's sleep meet seamlessly.”
